2023 Iceland Summer Solstice Trip
Trolls, fairies and & 24 hours of light...
Explore the land of trolls and fairies, where over 50% of the population still believes in them. This is an 8 day trip designed to give the explorer a great primer of the country. The trip will happen over Summer Solstice and we will take full advantage of 24 hours of light with a ton of excursions at night.
This trip will feature the best of Iceland’s urban landscapes as well as its natural ones. From days in Reykjavik exploring its culture & food scene to ones hiking steaming valleys and basalt waterfalls, this trip will cross off many of your bucket list items. This trip is for active explorers who want to understand more about this country and who may possibly come back on their own in the future.
This is from our DEBUT trip series so prices start around $3900.
Our trip begins in Reykjavik and heads east along the ring road towards the town of Vik and along the east coast towards Akureyri, our final destination. Along the way, we have hikes, walks and lots of scenary surprises.
Upon arrival, you will have the opportunity to soak in Iceland’s most famous thermal pool, the Blue Lagoon. These healing waters will soak all your worries away and are a great Icelandic tradition.
The city is one of my favorite’s in Europe and is so incredibly easy to navigate. The city has a beautiful glass concert hall on the harbor, hundreds of restaurants, Nordic-inspired shops, and lots of places to buy Icelandic-designed clothing & gifts. One suggested site is the Hallgrimskirkja church (pictured), famous for its spectacular views of the city and bay. Get there early and avoid the lines!
Southern Iceland is so full of waterfalls, natural wonders, that you could spend 5 days and never run out of things to see and do. On this trip, we briefly pass by a number of these sights including: Fjaðrárgljúfur, Skógafoss (pictured), Seljalandsfoss, Seljavallalaug swimming pool, Diamond beach and Eyjafjallajökull volcano. These are just some of the stopping points of this part of the trip.
Along the Ring Road
The ring road is Iceland's national highway and full of spectacular sights. We will spend countless hours on this road on our way to the North. Be prepared for sheep, horses, small Icelandic towns and once we pass the town of Vik, crowds gets lower and we start to experience real Iceland.
Aukureyri & The North
No trip to Iceland is complete without spending a couple of days in the southwest corner near Iceland’s 2nd largest city Akureyri. This city is missed by many on their 1st trip to Iceland. It is nestled in the North among Iceland’s ski slopes and the best whale watching. The city is compact & adorable. We have only a little time to take in its charm before making our way to the famous Lake Myvatn region.
Diamond Circle & Lake Myvatn
The Diamond Circle area encompasses 160 square miles and is the north’s answer the south’s Golden Circle. It has a wealth of natural sights to take in such as the waterfall of the Gods, the best whale watching in the world, and an island full of puffins. Lake Myvatn (pr: mee-vatn) is another spectacular area only an hour’s drive from Akureyri. We are staying in the heart of this area for 2 nights. This puts us in the center of the action and primed for a laundry list of things to do and see such as volcano hikes, visits to lava caves, and a large geothermal field with boiling mud pots and steam vents.
