Our TAG trips to Iceland should be considered active. Each explorer should be comfortable walking several miles. Some excursions/hikes can be skipped, however, that is the most fun part of Iceland.
The Iceland Adventure Trip is considered very active and all explorers should feel comfortable walking 3-5 miles with elevation gain.

Alcohol is very expensive in Iceland, more so than most other places in the world. For the reason that a beer can cost up to $8 a pint and wine $12+, a night of drinking could end up 1/2 the cost of the trip. For that reason, we have to exclude alcohol from the all-inclusive nature of the tour. But, that is why duty-free exists and I encourage all wanderers to grab a bottle or 2 of your favorite spirit before we leave the airport. Plus, we have the inside scoop on all the happy hour spots in Reykjavik.
This is because the hot and cold water come from two different sources. It is true that the hot water sometimes smells of sulfur, which is due to the geothermal origins of the hot water, making it excellent for bathing, but not drinking.
Once you run the water on the cold setting for a minute, the smell dissipates.
Temperatures in the summer months are cool, rainy, sunny & windy. Expect weather from the mid 50’s to high 60’s. Bring layers, long sleeves and a light jacket. We also recommend a waterproof shell in case of a rainy day. Tennis shoes and other walking shoes will be fine and flip flops for use at any thermal pools are recommended. We generally have light hiking on our tours and tennis shoes should be enough protection.
Temperatures in the winter months are cold & rainy. Expect weather from the mid 20’s to low 30’s. Bring layers, a long sleeve, long johns, and a heavy, waterproof jacket. A hat that covers your ears & a scarf is also recommended. The ground is generally frozen, so shoes like hiking boots with thick soles are also recommended. Wearing tennis shoes or other thin-soled shoes will not protect your feet from the cold.
Iceland is famous for its wool products so you can always buy clothing there to meet your needs, just know this is on the pricier side as wool coats can cost anywhere from $125 to $300. They do make great souvenirs.
Yes, Iceland is considered to be a safe country but like any place, please take precautions when going. Keep valuables locked up and have copies of your passport and credit cards in case of theft.
We generally stay in Foss Hotels around Iceland. This is a local hotel chain and offers a good amount of hotels througout the country. In some cases an equivilant hotel is needed.
No, Iceland does not require a visa for American passport holders.
YES, all Adventure Gal trips now require travel insurance. Travel is unpredictable! Flights get canceled, pipes in hotels burst and bags get lost or stolen.
Piece of mind is what our tours are all about so insuring your things and sanity is paramount so The Adventure Gals requires travel insurance.
The Adventure Gals partners with World Nomads for its insurance and you can receive an insurance quote – click here. Travel insurance offers travelers coverage for unforeseen problems, from a canceled flight to a serious illness—or in rare cases, the financial default of a travel supplier. If an illness, accident, or other covered unforeseen circumstance forces a traveler to cancel or interrupt their travel plans, they face two potentially major financial losses—money invested in nonrefundable pre-payments and medical expenses that in many instances may not be covered by health insurance.

Yes, Iceland is one of the few countries requiring proof of vaccination to board any Iceland-bound planes. Iceland requires those entering the country to take a Covid test. If anyone tests positive for Covid-19, they would need to follow the current quarantining guidelines provided by Iceland and thus could forfeit part of the scheduled tour until they were cleared for travel. The Adventure Gasl is not responsible for anyone who tests positive for the Corona virus during this trip.
